Contemporary Pearl

Pearls don't need to be louder. They need to be seen clearly.

Soft lustre, made for everyday wear.

The house

UNI-PERLA

UNI-PERLA began with a question: why is the pearl we reach for each morning still hidden in a drawer?

Most pearl jewelry is designed for occasions—weddings, dinners, anniversaries—not for Tuesday commutes, Friday meetings, or Sunday evenings at home. We started again from Zhuji, the world’s largest freshwater pearl base, to find pearls without ceremony markup and design them for everyday wear.

Unique Pearl. Every day. Four lines share one language: Perla Basics, Signature, Luxe, and Studio. Freshwater studs for daily light; South Sea strands when you want depth. No hollow luxury tax—just clear type, origin, nacre, and grade on every piece.

Home

Zhuji, Zhejiang

Our headquarters sit in the heart of the world's largest freshwater pearl base—where cultivation, selection, and finishing are a living craft.

Zhuji's pearl story runs through towns such as Shanxiahu, where freshwater mussels, nacre, and market knowledge have shaped a global supply of pearls for decades. What looks simple on the neck is the end of a long chain of water, time, and trained eyes.

Being based here means we are close to material truth: warm whites and soft pinks, fine skin versus harsh bleaching, pairs that converse under side light. It also means we can insist on restraint—keeping only what holds character before design begins.

From this place we work outward. Pieces leave Zhuji finished for international wear, but the judgment stays local: lustre first, proportion second, ornament last.

Journey

A house shaped by place and practice.

Grown from material work in Zhuji—learning what to keep, what to refuse, and how pearl can live in modern dress.

  1. 2019

    Roots in Zhuji

The house takes shape in Zhejiang's pearl capital. Early work focuses on reading freshwater pearls—skin, orient, and balance—before any collection name exists.

  2. 2021

    A quieter language

We set a clear rule: lustre before ornament. Metal steps back, clasps sit flush, and pieces are wear-tested for all-day comfort rather than camera-only moments.

  3. 2022

    Four lines emerge

Perla Basics, Signature, Luxe, and Studio become a shared vocabulary—from everyday freshwater glow and Akoya orient to South Sea depth and limited design pairings.

  4. 2024

    From base to world

With roots still in Zhuji, we open a steadier path for international wearers: measured correspondence, considered shipping, and the same material standard across borders.

  5. Today

    Everyday light

We keep refining proportion for contemporary necklines and pace. The place remains Zhuji; the aim remains the same—pearls seen clearly, worn often.

Principles

What we won't compromise

  1. 01

    Lustre over size

We chase the pearl with the clearest glow—not the largest one. Skin and orient decide what stays.

  2. 02

    Daily wear first

Every design starts from Tuesday mornings and open collars—not only weddings and dinners. Weight, clasps, and scale follow all-day use.

  3. 03

    Radical transparency

We publish pearl type, origin, nacre thickness, and grade. Cultured pearls are named clearly—never confused with imitation.

  4. 04

    Design with restraint

Subtract ornament so the pearl can speak. Metal stays quiet support; proportion does the work.

Method

Form follows material.

In Zhuji we select, match, prototype, finish, and wear-test. The time goes into judgment: which pearl stays, which pair converses under side light, which length sits cleanly on the collar.

Design answers the pearl—it does not drown it.
